Flamenco in Baton Rouge

June 15, 2013

I’ll be traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana next week for a one week residency to perform and teach. I’m excited at another opportunity to choreograph and meet new people. I seriously cannot wait and I feel extremely blessed.

I just recently watched the movie, ‘The Way,’ directed by Emilio Estevez and the starring role played by his father, Martin Sheen. The premise of the movie is of a father who loses his son and goes on an unexpected adventure, taking the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela.  It’s a beautiful movie and one that I highly recommend. ‘Thank You‘ by Alanis Morissette is featured in the film. I had heard the song years ago and upon hearing it again I was taken aback by it’s beauty. I had to post. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

I was just discussing some topics related to Victor Hugo and thought that I would share some interesting topics regarding the man.The following has been taken from Wikipedia:

Although Hugo’s many talents did not include exceptional musical ability, he nevertheless had a great impact on the music world through the inspiration that his works provided for composers of the 19th and 20th century.

Well over one thousand musical compositions have been inspired by Hugo’s works from the 19th century until the present day.

Hugo’s novels as well as his plays have been a great source of inspiration for musicians, stirring them to create not only opera and ballet but musical theatre such as Notre-Dame de Paris and the ever-popular Les Misérables.

He was born February 26,1802 – May 22, 1885; A French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. He is considered one of the greatest and best known French writers. In France, Hugo’s literary fame comes first from his poetry but also rests upon his novels and his dramatic achievements. Among many volumes of poetry, Les Contemplations and La Légende des siècles stand particularly high in critical esteem. Outside France, his best-known works are the novels Les Misérables, 1862, and Notre-Dame de Paris, 1831 (known in English as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame).

Pearl Jam: Just Breathe

April 12, 2013

‘Just Breathe’ by Pearl Jam. Beautiful song. I thought that I would share on this lovely Friday.

I like rap music. I feel like I’m in a confessional. But I do. Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Wreckx-N-Effect, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Hammer, Paperboy, Run DMC (of course), Lighter Shade of Brown…. the list goes on and on. And I like a ‘plethora’ of rap music. So, I thought I would post a… it’s not really a rap song, but,  by a high quality rapper, singer and actress. 🙂

Sincerely,

Lena Jácome
