Inuit Traditional Song

September 25, 2013

I think over again my small adventures, my fears, those small ones that seemed so big, all those vital things I had to get and to reach, and yet there is only one great thing; to live and see the great day that dawns, and the light that fills the world.

I want first of all to be at peace with myself.
I want a singleness of eye, a purity of intention,
A central core to my life that will enable me
To carry out these obligations and activities as well as I can.
I want, in fact, to borrow from the language of the saints :
To live ‘in grace’ as much of the time as possible.
I am not using this term in a strictly theological sense.
By grace I mean an inner harmony, essentially spiritual,
Of which can be translated into outward harmony.
I am seeking perhaps what Socrates asked for
In the prayer from the Phaedrus when he said,
“May the outward and inward man be One.”
I would like to achieve a state of inner spiritual grace
From which I could function and give
As I was meant to in the eye of God.

Sutta Nipata

The one who wanders independent in the world,
free from opinions and viewpoints,
does not grasp them and enter
into disputations and arguments.

As the lotus rises on its stalk
unsoiled by the mud and the water,
so the wise one speaks of peace and
is unstained by the opinions of the world.

Ignorance can be compared to a dark room in which you sleep. No matter how long the room has been dark, an hour or a million years, the moment the lamp of awareness is lit the entire room becomes luminous.

You are that luminosity. You are that clear light.

Throw yourself like a seed.

Shake off this sadness and recover your spirit.

Sluggish you will never see the wheel of fate

that brushes your heel as it turns going by.

I have come to drag you out of yourself and take you in my heart. I have come to bring out the beauty you never knew you had and lift you like a prayer to the sky.

All that we are is a result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him like a shadow that never leaves him.
