Dawna Markova

February 7, 2014

I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible;
to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom,
and that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit.

Labour of Love

November 17, 2012

It had been a whirlwind day. The night before I had just arrived to Jakarta from Amsterdam; a painful 15 hour flight.  I was exhausted. That night, I got a few hours sleep and headed out early in the morning to catch my flight to Bali. Tired — YES! Hungry — Absolutely!! After getting situated in our hotel room, my husband and I walked over to the restaurant for dinner.

As I sat down to eat dinner at the restaurant, an overwhelming sense of peace and calm came over me. I felt as if my grandparents were present. They both passed away years ago. However, at that moment I knew they were with me. I got the sensation that they were so tickled and so proud that their granddaughter was having a hearty dinner in Bali.

I felt their ‘labour of love’: All their hard work and sacrifices so that their children and generations after could experience a better quality of life. I kid you not, it was the best meal ever!

The Road Less Traveled

November 13, 2012

I’ve been thinking about the saying, “The Road Less Traveled” and what that phrase means to me. I have had the opportunity to experience things that I never imagined I would.

If you had told me a six months ago that I would travel to Bali in 2012, I would have told you that you had the wrong person. Not me.

However, as time passes, I see that life is filled with many unpredictable situations;  many surprises. It’s during these incredible highlights, like my time in Bali, that I am humbled and awe-struck at how incredible my life is.

Sincerely,

Lena Jácome
