Martha Graham: Expression
December 26, 2012
I attained my undergraduate degree at New World School of the Arts, a performing arts school based in Miami, Florida. It was there that I was exposed to Graham Technique. I fell in love with the style and felt inspired by Martha Graham’s love and dedication to dance. It was during this time in my life that I wanted to perform with The Martha Graham Dance Company. I was so passionate about the art form that for some time, there was nothing else in my eyes.
As time moved on I pursued other ventures and I ended up in the southwest instead of the northeast. I love my life and I feel very honored and blessed to have the life I have. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I never thought that flamenco dance would become such an important part of my life.
It’s wonderful to do what you love and love what you do. I look back on my modern dance training with joy and pride. It’s a wonderful memory and it was a great time in my life. I’m so glad I have that training under my belt as it provided a strong foundation for me.
It’s interesting how life changes and yet I’m just as passionate, if not more, about flamenco dance as I was while studying Graham Technique. To me, this is what life is about. Being passionate about life.
Sincerely,

Here are some images via my flickr page: Some of my time at the Musical Instrument Museum. I taught Flamenco Music & Dance Classes to kids with Chris Burton Jacome. As you can see, some parents jumped in and learned some Sevillanas as well!
Other images are from my time in Ashland, Oregon as I taught a 3-day flamenco dance workshop in conjunction to a performance with the CBJ Flamenco Ensemble and Ashland-based, Flamenco Duo at Southern Oregon University.
Other images are from my Flamenco! Coffee Table Book and from Sergio Photographer as he shot images during a one day rehearsal and performance at The Chandler Center for the Arts.

What people are saying:
I have taken this Sunday morning to sit and go through your wonderful book. The quotes are so uplifting and astounding. As I read the quote from Schweitzer – about when the light goes out and is rekindled by another person I thought of you. You have given me that spark. I know I am old and past physical means to spark but I will share your spark in my way as life moves on.
Thank you so much for your art, talent, and this wonderful book.
