The Whole Journey

February 4, 2011

I get asked often how I stay in shape.  All the exercise with flamenco dancing certianly helps keep me trim, but that’s only part of it.  My diet has had a huge impact on my ability to stay healthy and energized.  About 5 months ago I was fortunate enough to cross paths with an incredible nutritionist, Christa Orecchio.  I am taken aback by Christa’s knowledge & understanding of the human body and the foods that work best for each individual.  She’s thorough, honest and extremely precise.  If you or someone you care about is struggling with food allergies, chronic physical pain, even emotional stress then you may wish to consider contacting Christa.  Her website includes great recipes, articles regarding several health topics, etc. Vist her website at:

The Whole Journey

June 24, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, but only because I was too busy enjoying my time in Sevilla, Spain.  I just returned to Phoenix a day ago from a wonderful month enjoying all that Sevilla had to offer.  Below are a few pics from my time there:

Hanging out at La Carboneria before a flamenco performance.

At Pena Torres Macarena with Olivia enjoying a nuevo flamenco performance.

With Olivia.

I call this photo, “Dancer in the Dish”

I don’t remember the name of this church, but it is located on Calle San Luis.

Dance in Phoenix

April 16, 2009

Backstage with Chris & Casey – stage manager and lighting tech guru – before a concert in Green Valley.

I just returned home from a fabulous lunch with my beautiful friend, Casey.  We met in graduate school while attending ASU’s Dance Program and we’ve been good friends ever since.  Make sure and check out her website: Dance in Phoenix to find out what is going on around the valley – concerts, classes, etc.  It’s a great resource.

I’ve been traveling in and out of Phoenix over the past few months and I’ve fallen slightly behind in my blogging…..  ooops.  Thought I would post a few pics from my experience in South Dakota.  Below are images of the flamenco concert that took place at The Dahl on March 1st. All photos are courtesy of the talented Paschal Karl of Karl Creations.  Thank you so much, Paschal for sharing your artistry of photography with me!!

Chris Burton Jacome

The most fulfilling experience as an instructor is to see your students shine.  I taught a 4-day flamenco workshop at Barefoot Dance Studio in South Dakota which culminated in a final performance at The Dahl Center.  What a thrill it was to see them on stage.  I am just so proud of all the participants and I am still beaming with delight.  Once again, thank you to Andrea Shaefer of Barefoot Dance Studio for making the workshop possible.  If you are in the Rapid City Area, then make sure to visit Barefoot Dance Studios to see what other great classes and projects are being offered.

In addition, Chris provided a 3-day guitar workshop.  Above are a few of Chris’ guitar students performing on stage. Ole!

I had just taught the 1st copla of Sevillanas the same day of the performance.  I’m dancing with Wiyaka; her first time taking dance classes and her first time dancing on stage!!!  Impressive!

Thank you once again, to Paschal Karl of Karl Creations for the great photos.  Please visit Lena Jacome for upcoming performances and projects.
