Sisters we come
from a place in the sea
When the Moon is full
we dance to be free.

Rumi ~ Dance

July 1, 2013

Love is the dancing cry of the soul, calling the body to worship
Like a shining whirlpool, or a spinning mayfly
So is love among the skies.
I leap across the mountaintops, madly singing the song of all songs
I float through the ether, intoxicated, thrilled
I think only of your love, your calling to me
And I dance the thousand dances of love, all returning to you.

It is not the play of children, nor the detached unity of wise sages
Unreal! Unnecessary!
Where is the beauty?

When I, like a glowing comet, may flash around your sun
Laughing, singing, with the joy of loving you!

Wine makes drunk the mind and body
But it is love which thrills the soul
When I approach you, I feel the mad pounding of love
The singing wonder
The joy which opens blossoms on the trees of the world.

Come to me, and I shall dance with you
In the temples, on the beaches, through the crowded streets
Be you man or woman, plant or animal, slave or free
I shall show you the brilliant crystal fires, shining within
I shall show you the beauty deep within your soul
I shall show the path beyond Heaven.

Only dance, and your illusions will blow in the wind
Dance, and make joyous the love around you
Dance, and your veils which hide the Light
Shall swirl in a heap at your feet.

About a month ago I performed with a good friend and a talented dancer, Liliana de Leon Torsiello. She has her dance company Flamenco de Leon which I had the opportunity to partake in at Scottsdale Center for the Arts. I loved the below image taken by so I thought that I would share.

Here’s a brief video clip of my performance with the Chris Burton Jácome Flamenco Ensemble at the Phoenix Art Museum sponsored by the Latin American Art Alliance in November 2011.  This is part of a flamenco dance in the palo of tientos.  The evening included  flamenco dance and music with a fusion of Mariachi music from where, Chris Burton Jácome’s brainchild, ¡FlaMéxico! was born.

The Chris Burton Jácome Flamenco Ensemble had the wonderful gift this year to be the season opener for the GCCCA’s concert season.  It was a magical evening performing at the Western New Mexico University’s Fine Arts Center on October 15, 2011.  Silver City is my hometown and it was wonderful to have so many family and friends attend the concert that evening. In addition, I released my coffee table book, Flamenco! at the concert.  A special evening indeed!

With all the excitement I actually forgot to take photos!  How can this be?  I find myself asking that question now. So here are the few images that were taken during the richly filled adventure to Silver City, New Mexico.

On our way to the venue. Organic Popcorn with Olive Oil.. yum.  Only at Trader Joe’s!

On the way to New Mexico.  Casey  allowing me to take her photo.

Morning of the concert.  Photo taken from my parent’s kitchen window.

I was riding with my brother when I took a snapshot of the Fine Arts Center.

Leaving Silver City early the next morning.  Here’s an image on the road as we enter into El Paso, Texas.
